Terms of Service
Last updated
These terms are the agreement between you and Meta Lira Technology LTD (“Metalira”, “we”, “us”) for using RentLedger. We have kept them as short and plain as we can. By creating an account, you agree to them.

About these terms
“You” means the landlord or agent who opens the RentLedger account, and anyone you invite to it, such as a caretaker. You must be at least 18 and able to enter a binding contract in Nigeria.
What RentLedger does
RentLedger is a record-keeping and reminder tool. It helps you keep a ledger for each tenancy, record payments, issue receipts and prepare reminders that you send yourself.
- We do not hold or move money. Tenants pay you directly. RentLedger records the payments you or your caretaker enter.
- We do not send WhatsApp messages for you. We prepare the message; you choose whether to send it from your own WhatsApp.
- You are responsible for your records. Balances and receipts are only as accurate as the information entered, so please check them.
Not legal advice
Nothing in RentLedger, including reminder wording, templates, help articles or this website, is legal advice, and we are not acting as your lawyer. For tenancy disputes, recovery of premises or anything else legal, please speak to a qualified Nigerian lawyer.
Your account and your team
Keep your sign-in details safe and tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account. You are responsible for what happens in your account, including the actions of caretakers and agents you invite. Caretaker entries wait for your approval before they count.
How we process your tenants’ data
This section is our data processing agreement with you under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. Our Privacy Policy gives more detail.
- Roles. For your tenants’ information, you are the data controller and Metalira is the data processor.
- Your instructions. We process tenant data only to provide RentLedger to you and on your instructions, and never for our own marketing.
- Your duties. You confirm you have a lawful reason to record your tenants’ details and that you will tell them you use RentLedger to keep their rent records.
- Sub-processors. We use Supabase (database, sign-in and storage), Vercel (hosting), Resend (email) and Paystack (subscription billing). We will tell you before adding a new sub-processor.
- Security. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit, access is limited by role, proof photos are private, and every change to a money record is logged.
- Breach notification. If a personal data breach affects your account, we will tell you without undue delay and notify the Nigeria Data Protection Commission within 72 hours of becoming aware of it.
- Deletion on termination. When your account ends, your data is soft-deleted immediately and permanently erased after 30 days. You can export everything before then.
- Help with requests. We will help you respond to a tenant who asks to see, correct or delete their information.
Acceptable use
Please use RentLedger fairly. You must not use it to:
- harass, threaten, shame or intimidate tenants, or message them at unreasonable hours;
- send messages about unlawful eviction, lock-outs or seizing a tenant’s property;
- record information you have no lawful reason to hold, such as BVN, NIN or ID cards;
- break the law, or try to break, overload or get around the security of the service.
We may suspend accounts that break these rules, and we will tell you why.
Subscriptions and billing
- The Free plan is free for up to 3 units. Paid plans are billed monthly or yearly.
- Subscriptions are billed through Paystack. Diaspora plans are charged by card in pounds or dollars.
- You can cancel at any time from Settings. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you have paid for, and then moves to the Free plan.
- Each plan has a unit limit. If you go over it, we will ask you to upgrade before you add more units; your existing records stay safe.
- We will give you at least 30 days’ notice by email before any price change.
Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time from Settings. We may close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, after warning you where we reasonably can.
Limitation of liability
To be completed by our lawyer. This section will set out the limits of Metalira’s liability, for example that we are not responsible for decisions made using RentLedger’s records, and a cap on total liability.
Changes
We may update RentLedger and these terms from time to time. If a change is important, we will update the date at the top of this page and email you before it takes effect.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Any dispute will be handled by the courts of Lagos State, Nigeria.
